I began creating textiles around the kitchen table at the ripe old age of three. My mother was a make do sort of person and so I learned many craft skills. I studied at the South Australian School of Art before graduating as primary teacher. Later on I studied for and received a Bachelor of Education ( Aboriginal Education). I taught art and textiles in many remote Aboriginal communities across Australia. Later on I went on to establish the Wool 'n' Yarn Company in Coonabarabran, NSW to manufacture super fine woollen garments. The company received a NSW Business Award of Excellence in 1993 and I was awarded the 1996 ABC Australian Rural Woman of the Year, the 1997 Sydney Business Review Business woman of the Year, Listed in the Top 100 women in Australian Agriculture in 1998 and received many awards in the Wee Waa Fashion in the Pen Awards and other fashion and textile competitions.
I am passionate about the innovative use of Australian wool in garments and have promoted wool and rural enterprises for the past 40 years.
I began making felt out of wool and silk in 1979 and today spend my time pushing its boundaries.
